In this large-scale, experience-base theme park, you can meet ninjas, samurais and geishas. You should not miss the spectacular Ninja Show and Oiran Theater performed in the space where the Japanese old streets in the Edo period (17th to 19th centuries) are reproduced. Your experience would become more special, if you play a role of a ninja or wear outfits of a samurai or Japanese princess.

In this theme park, you can see world's famous heritages and constructions in 1:25 scale. Hunter Mountain Shiobara

Located at a place about 60 minutes by taxi from the Kinugawa-Onsen area, Hunter Mountan Shiobara, which is known as one of the largest winter resort in the Kanto region, has a ski slope that provides various courses for beginners to advance skiers. Its Kids Park where parents and kids can play with snow also attracts many visitors.

2. Round-trip ticket for the buses operated among the lodging facilities located in the area between the Kinugawa-onsen Station and the Kinugawa-Onsen

Enjoy Japanese New Year, Too.

The period extending from the end of December to January 3 provides the best opportunity to see Japanese traditional culture. Why not experience cuisines and events in the Japanese New Year?
Preparation for New Year: Wishing long lives of family members, people decorate their houses with lucky charms such as Kadomatsu (New Year’s pine decorations), Shimekazari (New Year festoon made of sacred straw) and Kagamimochi (mirror-shaped rice cakes).
December 31 (Omisoka or New Year's Eve): People eat Toshikoshi-soba (buckwheat noodles eaten on New Year’s Eve) with wishes for the lives that are as long as soba noodles. In the middle of the night, the sound of Joya no kane (bells ringing out the old year) is heard from temples.
January 1 (Gantan): People see the first sunrise of the year solemnly. Then, they eat Osechi (traditional New Year's food arranged in beautiful multitiered boxes) and Ozoni (rice cake soup), and drink Toso (New Year's spiced sake) with wishes to remove negative vibes and have long lives.
January 1 through 3: People visit temples and shrines to pray that they can have a peaceful and healthy new year.

Lunar New Year and "ONI" Festival 2019 in Kinugawa-onsen 〜Celebration of the coming spring〜

In this event, the Chinese New Year is celebrated. This year’s event features the “Kaiun Oni Atsume Stamp Rally (Ogre Stamp Rally for Good Luck),” in which participants walk around to meet “oni (ogre)” originated from Kinugawa onsen and pray for good luck in the new year. Participants who collected all the stamps can receive the gift (first 200 people only).

In this fantastic event, about 800 miniature kamakuras (snow huts) are illuminated from inside with candles. You could enjoy BBQ in the standerd size kamakura. *BBQ: Reservation required.

About 500 miniature kamakuras (snow huts) are illuminated from inside. In addition, fireworks are set off by the Yunoko Lake on February 2 (exact time is to be advised later).

Chuzenji-onsen KAMAKURA Snow House Festival

In this event, visitors can enjoy various snow play such as creation of kamakura (snow hut) and snow lanterns, and a huge snow slide, as well as illumination and fireworks.

Kinu-Hime (Princess Kinu) Festival

The resort exhibits Hina dolls (dolls displayed at the Girls' Festival) as well as hung Hina dolls, and offers special lodging plans. In addition, visitors can experience hand-making of the Hina dolls.

Strawberry picking

Winter is the best season for strawberry picking, because the winter cold is the most important element for production of good strawberries. Relish fresh and delicious strawberries to the full at a tourist farm that produces “Tochiotome,” brand strawberries produced in Nikko, Tochigi.

Flower Garden Nikko Hanaichimonme

Mizu-yokan (soft adzuki-bean jelly)

Nikko

Mizu-yokan (azuki red bean jelly) is Nikko’s winter sweet characterized by the feeling that the jelly glides easily down the throat and delicate sweetness. Because Mizu-yokan cannot be preserved for long time due to lack of refrigeration technology in old days, people used to eat it only in winter. Enjoy the taste of mizu-yokan that is cooked by bringing out characteristics of selected azuki beans and flavorful agar.
