British Embassy Villa Memorial Park

For the first time, the British Embassy House, which was built by Ernest Mason Satow in 1896 and used by the ambassadors until 1997, is opened to the public.

Italian Embassy Villa Memorial Park

The Italian Embassy House built by the Lake Chuzenji for summer retreat is restored and opened to the public. Visitors can enjoy beautiful lake scenery over tea at the tea lounge in the house.

Kegon Falls

Ryuou Festival

Kinugawa - Kawaji Hot Spring

The festival consisting of solemn Shinto rituals on the Ryuokyo Valley, along with vibrant mikoshi (portable shrine) parade and fireworks in the Kinugawa - Kawaji hot spring, brings one of the greatest summer spectacles to the area. Tourists can experience mikoshi carrying (only for females and advance registration required).

Nikko Waraku Odori (Waraku Dancing)

When the Emperor visited this place in 1913, people performed this dance spontaneously for celebration. Local stuff provides information and instruction of the dance to tourists from other countries. English lyrics and leaflets are also available.

Nikko’s shaved ice uses the soft and fluffy ice produced by freezing Nikko’s mineral water in the natural coldness of the area and storing it in an ice room. Special Events in the World-Heritage Shrines and Temples in Nikko

Special Exhibition of Painted Panels on the Outer Walls of the Yomeimon Gate

Nikko

Painted panels on the outer walls of the Yomeimon Gate of the Nikko Toshogu Shrine, which is under repair, is exhibited for a limited time only. If you miss this opportunity, you cannot see them until 50 years later. Don't miss it, now!

First Exhibition of Standing Statue of Shodo Shonin (Saint Shodo)

A plaster figure of Shodo Shonin (Saint Shodo) who founded the Nikkosan Rinno-Ji Temple is exhibited for the first time. The bronze statue of the famous Shodo Shonin was created based on this plaster figure.

First Exhibition of Kisshoten Statue

The hidden Buddhist statue of Kisshoten is opened to the public for the first time. It is said that the statue was created based on the image of a tennyo (heavenly maiden) that Shodo Shonin (Saint Shodo) saw.

In the Nikko Toshogu Shrine, repair of the Sleeping Cat and Three Monkeys is scheduled to continue respectively until December 2016 and March 2017. During this repair period, the replicas and photographs are exhibited. In addition, visitors can see the repair work of the Three Monkeys.
