This year as well, leaves colored in red and yellow decorate the city and mountains from late September to late November. Because this season attracts most visitors across the year, it is recommended to visit the places in early morning or evening twilight time, if you like strolling or photo-taking. Kinutateiwa Viewing Platform

Kinugawa - Kawaji Hot Spring

This viewing platform is located at the place across Kinutateiwa (Tateiwa Rock) Otsuribashi (Suspension Bridge) from the Kinugawa Hot Spring Resort. Visitors can have sweeping views of colored autumn leaves decorating the Kinugawa Ravine, as well as the hot spring resort surrounded by beautiful red leaves.

This architecture with a garden was constructed for Emperor Taisho in the architectural style employed from the 18th century to the beginning of the 20th century. Visitors can appreciate the elegant culture of the imperial family.

Kosugi Hoan Museum of Art, Nikko

Exhibited in this museum are Japanese paintings, oil paintings and watercolor painting by Kosugi Hoan, a Nikko-born artist painter who is known with the wall painting of the Yasuda Auditorium in the University of Tokyo.

The biggest festival in the Nikko area. At a short distance, visitors can see various breathtaking rituals such as yabusame ritual in which riders on horsebacks shoot targets with arrows, as well as “Hyakumonozoroe Sennin Musha Gyoretsu,” a parade of 800 people in samurai warrior outfits.

Imaichi Yatai Matsuri (Float Festival)

Traditional 6 floats decorated with sculptures and 4 floats with flowers parade in the town. It is breathtaking to see two floats approach with each other as close as possible and compete their rhythm and sound of the festival music.

Nikko Soba Festival

You can relish soba (buckwheat noodles) produced not only in Nikko, a famous area that produces buckwheat, but also in other areas. Visitors can also enjoy street stands to sell tools for soba dish and Nikko’s local products, as well as performance of traditional local entertainments.
