400th Shikinentaisai (Grand Festival) at World-Heritage Nikko Toshogu Shrine

Shikinen Taisai (imperial memorial ceremony) is held every 50 years. Because this year also marks the 400th anniversary of death of Lord Tokugawa Ieyasu who died in 1616, various special events such as dohyoiri (ring entering ceremony) performed by Yokozuna (grand champion of Sumo) and horseback archery competition will be held.

Yaki soba (fried noodles) is a dish cooked by frying Chinese-style noodles and various ingredients. In this event that is held as a counterpart of the Nikko Soba Festival, more than 30 yakisoba restaurants inside and outside of Tochigi serve their yaki soba for competition.
