    Around Kinugawa - kawaji hot spring, there are many good autumn leaves viewing spots that have been known through the ages, such as the area surrounding the world-heritage Two Shinto Shrines and One Buddhist Temple in Nikko, and the side of Lake Chuzenji. It is just breath-taking to see brilliant red and yellow colored leaves encompassing the whole Nikko area in autumn.

            Event Information in Autumn

            Many exclusive events are scheduled for this season. You should not miss the magnificent firework show to be held around the Kogane Bridge in Kawaji hot spring. In addition, enjoy the popular event called “2013 Dam and Dam Lake Exploration Tour” and the new event to be started from this year, “Edo Wonder Night.”

              Kawaji hot spring Autumn Leaves Festival

              In daytime, “Aki no Ennichi (Autumn Festival Day)” is held at the Kawaji Fureai Park, and locally-produced fresh vegetables and specialty products are sold there. In nighttime, the “Shikake Hanabi Show (Exhibition Firework Show)” is held around the Kogane Bridge in Kawaji hot spring. In this around-30-minute show, the original exhibition fireworks are set off and visitors can enjoy the mystical combination of the fireworks and music.

              Dam and Dam Lake Tour 2013

              This popular tour takes tourists from the road to the water front with an amphibious bus. You can see and feel the nature around the dam from the lake.

              Relish Great Autumn Food of Kinugawa/Kawaji!

              The Nikko area provides excellent cooking ingredients that are carefully produced with high-quality water on the rich soil. Restaurants in this area offer delicious dishes that are cooked on their own recipe and style by using a variety of ingredients.                 Tochigi Kirifuri Kogen Beef (Marbled Beef Produced at Tochigi Plateaus)

                The cattle is produced by cross-breeding Holstein bulls with Japanese black cows. The beef, which has a mild and richly-flavored taste, was named as the champion in a competitive show.

                  Nikko (Himitsu) Prok

                  Because the pigs are bred on the rich soil of Nikko, quality of the meat are maintained at a high level. This specialty pork is tender, has no smell, and has appropriate amount of fat in the lean.

                    Yashio Trout

                    Yahio Trout is large-size rainbow trout, an improvement of trout varieties. In comparison with other salmon, its fat is light and mild, and its meat has delicious tastes that you can only feel with fish meat. Thanks to mildness of the fat, the meat does not have a strong aftertaste.

                      Nikko Maitake Mushroom

                      Nikko maitake mushrooms are cultivated at the feet of the Nikko Mountains without pesticides. Thanks to Nikko’s natural environment and with modern equipment, Nikko Maitake mushrooms are excellent in resiliency, taste and flavor, and is counted as one of the best maitake mushroom breed in Japan.

                        Nikko-Produced Koshihikari Rice

                        “Kamijishi-mai,” Nikko-produced Koshihikari rice, is grown by using the underflow water of the Nikko Mountains at the district called Kobayashi, Nikko, which lies downstream of the limpid Kinugawa River. The rice attracts widespread popularity as one of the best “brand rice.”

                          Local Sake of Nikko

                          Local sake of Nikko is brewed at traditional breweries that are located at the feet of the Nikko Mountains. Produced by using local rice, high-quality water and yeasts, “Nikko Homare” is one of the most popular ginjoshu with no added alcohol.
